I'm ashamed to tell you that my dogs do not even know how to "sit" and learning about a dog that knows 1022 words, only makes me feel more like a lazy pet parent. My "girls" are poodle-mixes and they let me know that learning commands is beneath them. Still, I wonder what it would be like to own a super smart dog like Chaser! Two researchers from Wofford College, Dr. Alliston Reid and Dr. John Pilley have worked with Chaser for five hours per day for three years to establish this huge vocabulary. When they began, their goal was just to exceed a 200-word vocabulary that another border collie has mastered. Dr. Philley and Dr. Reid's findings were published in the journal Behavioural Processes.
